Our Adoption Process

To be considered for adoption, please watch our website and social media pages for available dogs to be posted.  We will make announcements on our Facebook page and our website when we start accepting applications for the pugs in our care.  If you have questions, please contact our Adoption Coordinatorone-time Rachel at adoptpugs@hotmail.com.

PLEASE READ THIS BEFORE APPLYING!

Thank you for your interest in adopting a rescue pug! Please take the time to read through our application process BEFORE sending us an email.  If you cannot find the answer to your question here, please email us at adoptpugs@hotmail.com.

Step 1 - Application

Carefully review our adoption process and then complete our adoption application.

There is a one time,  $10, non-refundable application processing donation. Refunds will not be given if your application is denied. The $10 application fee goes directly to the care of the pugs in our rescue. The adoption fee can be paid directly on our website. We also accept payments through Zelle at the email address midmichiganpugclub@aol.com. Please provide the receipt when you submit your application. Your application will be kept on file even if you aren’t chosen for the specific pug you applied for.

Step 2 - Application Preliminary Review

Our Adoption Coordinator will screen your application to determine if you’d be a potential good fit for the pug you are interested in adopting.  If there are any major concerns about adopting a dog to you based on information provided in your application, your application will be denied.

Step 3 - Landlord Approval

If you rent your home, your landlord will be contacted, or you will need to provide a copy of your lease to verify you have permission to have a dog in your home. If your landlord does not allow for a dog in your home, your application will be denied.

Step 4 – Veterinary References Contacted

A volunteer will contact the veterinary reference(s) you provided to determine if your current pets are spayed/neutered, kept up-to-date on vaccinations, and generally well cared for consistently. If you do not currently have pets, we may ask about the veterinary care that your previous pets received. If you have never owned a pet, this step is skipped but you may be asked to provide additional personal references. If your veterinary reference(s) cannot verify the care history, spay/neuter, and vaccination status of your pet(s), processing of your application will be held until you can provide this information. Exemptions to our spay/neuter policy are granted if your vet has recommended not doing procedures because of age and/or health issues.  If your pet(s) is overdue for vaccinations, you will be required to bring them up to date before proceeding with the screening process.  If your pet(s) is more than 6 months overdue, your application may be denied. Exemptions to the vaccine policy will only be made if the veterinarian deems vaccines would be unsafe for your animal.

Step 5 - Phone Interview with Adoption Coordinator and Foster Home

You will be contacted by the Adoption Coordinator and/or the volunteer who is fostering the pug you are interested in adopting. This will give us a chance to get to know you and for you to ask questions.

Step 6 – Home Visit

A volunteer will conduct a home visit either in person or virtually. This home visit will allow us to see the environment the pug would be living in and to determine if the home/family would be the best fit for the pug in question.

Step 7 – Approval/Denial

Our Adoption Coordinator uses the information provided on the application and vet reference check to determine an applicant’s suitability for adopting a dog. Our Adoption Coordinator will notify you of your status. We reserve the right to refuse any applicant for any reason if we feel the needs of the dog will not be properly met or the adoption is not in the best interest of the dog.

Step 8 – Finalizing the Adoption

Once you have been approved, a meet and greet can be held before adoption day or the meet and greet and adoption can both occur at the same time. The foster and adopting family will work together to come up with a day/time/location for the adoption to occur.

Step 9 – Sign the Contract and Pay the Adoption Donation

The last step in the adoption process is the signing of the adoption contract and medical release form.  You will be required to pay the entire donation amount at the time you pick up your new family member. In many cases, the meet and greet and adoption can be done on the same day. Email is the most effective and preferred way to communicate with MMPC volunteers. It is a small group of volunteers that handle all of the tasks related with rescuing pugs. Our volunteers also have families, jobs, and pets of their own. We thank you for your patience and understanding. We reserve the right to refuse service and adoption without explanation.
